Mission
We are dedicated to exploring the complex intersections of genealogy and epigenetics, with a focus on understanding how environmental factors influence weight management and eating disorders within minority and indigenous communities. Her research aims to uncover the intricate linkages between cultural, environmental, and genetic factors that impact these health issues. By shedding light on these connections, she hopes to revolutionize healthcare approaches and ensure more equitable, culturally sensitive treatment for marginalized populations struggling with weight and disordered eating.
Purpose
This organization aims to scientifically explore the relationship between the healthcare system and minority groups facing weight management and eating disorders. Our goal is to bridge care gaps and improve health outcomes for these communities. Recognizing the significant disparities driven by social determinants of health, we focus on understanding and addressing the systemic factors affecting marginalized populations to promote equitable care.
Organizational Goals
Our goal is to provide the medical community with research on the genetics and genealogy of minority populations facing weight management and eating disorders. We aim to make this data accessible to improve culturally sensitive care and deepen understanding of genetic factors influencing these issues, ultimately enhancing healthcare outcomes for marginalized communities.
Why we care?
The research we are conducting is highly significant for minority groups struggling with weight management and eating disorders, as these communities—such as African Americans, Hispanics, and Asians—continue to face substantial disparities in health outcomes despite recent advances in the U.S. healthcare system. Multiple factors contribute to these disparities, including language barriers, limited access to insurance, cultural beliefs, and stigma. Additionally, systemic issues such as racism and discrimination further hinder equitable care and support for these populations. Our research aims to address these challenges and promote more inclusive, culturally sensitive approaches to improving health outcomes for minority communities affected by weight management and eating disorders.
